They are ideal for a couple or the solo traveller looking for a base to explore the area or attend the festivals, or, of course, you can just sit and look out of the window, read a book, and leave feeling refreshed. Spacious family-owned mid-barn conversion in Glasbury-on-Wye, 5 miles from Hay-on-Wye. Recently and lovingly restored, this hidden gem lies on the edge of the village, just a 5-minute walk from Foyles Hotel and Restaurant and The Harp Inn. Glasbury House, with its pop-up food stalls and entertainment, is also within walking distance.) From the house, there are several walking routes, including a river walk along the River Wye just minutes from the front door. There is a regular bus service from the village (not far from the petrol station) to the Hay Festival. The house is well-equipped as it is a family home with all mod-cons (integrated dishwasher, fridge freezer and electric oven) and comfortable furnishings (4-seater sofa and arm chair) in the social spaces. The first floor has two king-size bedrooms with a shared bathroom off the landing. Both rooms have coffee machines and there will be coffee pods, UHT milk and Welsh biscuits provided. The second floor suite is a double room with wing-backed chair and ensuite bathroom. This bedroom has views to the River Wye from the Velux windows - a really beautiful sight. The back garden has a private terrace with outdoor sofa and dining table and chairs. While pictures show a working wood-burner, it will not be in use during your stay. That said, heating will be pre-set with a boost option if needed to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Towels and bed linen are provided as part of the service. A washing machine is available to use if necessary. Furthermore, two off-street car parking spaces are available (one at side and one at rear of the property). Unfortunately, due to the owners severe allergy to pets, dogs are not permitted in the house or gardens. Brilliantly located in central Hay, peaceful with private parking The Old Pub used to The Half Moon and is the oldest house in Hay, as mentioned in several books, it used to be a pub and maintains that warm cosy feel of those happy days. It is now a much loved family home, with the ground floor rented out separately, and the top floor converted into holiday accommodation during Hay Festival.) It has some quirky features such as the side door and beautiful old wooden stairs winding up to the top floor and some walls decorated with books to compliment Hays renowned reputation as the worlds first book town.The larger bedroom has a double bed that has a nice view to the hills, and the other smaller bedroom, previously our child’s, is a cheerful buttercup yellow, with views over Hays lovely wonky rooftops . There is a sitting room, which can alternatively be a third bedroom with a sofa bed, that offers a restful spot to gaze out to the hills. Over the festival we allow guests to use our personal kitchen, and there are also essentials in the sitting room ,such as a small counter fridge, kettle with tea and coffee provided. The toilet and bathroom are in the middle floor with towels provided. During the festival the downstairs flat is also booked out so we ask if you could enter and leave the house quietly, although once on the top floor noise doesn't travel. This house is a quirky experience in itself. However its also our home, could do with an update but we find it comfy and quirky and hope you will too.

This is a beautiful 5-star self-catering cottage located in an incredibly beautiful valley directly under the Black Mountains. The approach is suitably exciting: a narrow track winds its way into the little cwm from the Mountain Road through fields of ponies and sheep. A beautiful Jacobean townhouse in a quiet but central part of Hay, with a sunken front garden of box and bay, surrounded by climbing magnolia, roses and wisteria, and espaliated crab apple. Built in ca. 1620 it is a Grade II listed building which has been lovingly restored by its previous owners. There is an upstairs sitting room for guests, (maximum of 4 guests) with fridge, kettle and microwave. Guests are also welcome to use the garden and the large dining room to sit in or work in at any time of day. Free wifi throughout the house. During the main Hay Festival (late May/early June of each year) we provide a light continental breakfast around a shared table in the dining room, or in the garden if the weather is fine, with cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast, fruit juices and tea/coffee. Outside the main Hay Festival in May/June we do not provide breakfast: guests may wish to make their own breakfast in the guest sitting room, or there are numerous cafes within a short walk of the house. We are not a dedicated B&B business; this is a family house and we only occasionally let out rooms. We create a welcoming, informal atmosphere and want to make you feel totally at home here. Please note we have two friendly collie dogs who wander around the ground floor, run about in the garden, and occasionally do bark. Situated midway between the lovely small "book" town of Hay-on-Wye and the village of Glasbury, we offer comfortable accommodation in a twin room with private bathroom with shower and bath, and a wonderful full "Welsh" breakfast in our home which is a 16th century cruck construction converted barn with exposed beams thoughout. Set back some 200 metres off the road and with extensive views over fields towards the Radnorshire hills, it is very private and peaceful. Our guests are treated as house guests. The twin bedroomed room is furnished with antique 19th Century Victorian iron and brass bedsteads with really comfortable new "Seventh Heaven" mattresses. As we live in a small complex of converted barns (6 in total), it is very private and quiet. The view from the bedroom is over the garden and adjoining fields to the Radnorshire Hills in the distance. Private and safe parking is available right outside the front door. Guests are welcome to come and go as they please and will be given keys on arrival. We like our guests to feel as though they are house guests and we have many guests who return year on year as they feel so comfortable with us. We have a lovely private enclosed garden and guests are welcome to make use of this as well. We are happy to help guests with our knowledge of the local area and recommend walking, cycling routes etc., and help with recommendations of local pubs and restaurants and shopping. Situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, we are ideally situated for exploring this most beautiful region. To the south west we are within 35 minutes drive of parking to access the famous twin summits of Pen-y-Fan and Corn Du. The Central Beacons is the highest mountain range in southern Britain. Many walkers make for the famous twin summits of Pen-y-Fan and Corn Du for challenge and adventure. However, the 520 square mile extent of our Park also contains three other upland areas, the Black Mountain range, the Fforest Fawr massif and the Black Mountains, all with their own distinctive character and spectacular walking potential. To the south east we are within 30 minutes drive to access parking to walk the well known Black Mountain (also known as "the Cat's Back"). The Black Mountain features as the lightly fictionised location in the book by Bruce Chatwin, "On the Black Hill". To the south, we are within a short 10 minute drive to access parking for Hay Bluff. Hay Bluff (Welsh: Penybegwn) is a prominent hill at the northern tip of the Black Mountains, an extensive upland massif which straddles the border between south-east Wales and England. The mountain sits on an escarpment which faces north and runs roughly east-west, the next peak in the west being the Twmpa. The flat summit of Hay bluff overlooks the middle Wye Valley and the book town of Hay-on-Wye and is marked by a triangulation pillar at a height of 677 metres (2,221 ft). The hill is largely within the Welsh county of Powys though parts of its eastern flanks lie within the English county of Herefordshire. Outdoor pursuits feature prominently in the area and there are ample opportunities to engage in canoeing, caving, cycling, fishing, golf, mountain biking, horse-riding, rock climbing, sailing and other watersports, sightseeing underground at Dan yr Ogof Showcaves and The Big Pit, wild life and bird watching. If you don't have your own transport there is a bus service at the bottom of our drive which runs throughout day time hours. The service runs from Hereford (nearest train station) via Hay-on-Wye to Brecon, with connections to Cardiff. This service runs approximately every 2 hours.
